Hopkins County - Madisonville Public Library currently has 17 stations and up to 10 public laptops available for general internet access. There is no fee to use these stations but certain time restrictions apply. PLEASE READ OUR PAC (Public Access Computing) POLICY FOR FURTHER DETAILS. All computers sessions are regulated through CASSIE, our computer reservation software. Sessions are guaranteed for 1 hour, with time extensions up to 2 hours if there is no-one waiting for a system. Library cards are required to use the Internet computers at both locations. Patrons will also require a password to be set up on their library accounts in order to use the computers.
Some stations are handicapped accessible, please ask staff for further details regarding these terminals. The computers are generally open for public access during normal hours of operation. The number of computers available is subject to change without prior notice. All internet terminals and laptops have printing capabilities and high speed cable internet service, provided courtesy of NewWave Communications. There are 2 tutoring stations available for 2 or more individuals, as well as 2 research systems.
For your convenience the main library also has 5 children's stations and 1 teen computer, all loaded with children's educational and recreational software. CERTAIN RESTRICTIONS APPLY. There is NO internet access on these systems, however Live Homework Help can be used. These services are generally available to the public during operating hours, however the number of stations available stations can change without prior notice.
The Dawson Springs Branch Library has 11 internet stations, 2 laptops, 3 children's and 1 teen computer available during hours of library operation. Availability of systems is subject to change without prior notice.
The Bookmobile has cellular broadband internet acess on board, with a laptop available for public use. Printing is also available. Wireless service is also offered to patrons who have their own equipment. Service is subject to connectivity with the internet Provider.
Wireless Internet Access
In addition to the PAC Policy above, the following policy applies to wireless internet users: All users of the Hopkins County - Madisonville Public Library wireless internet access must abide by the PAC policy. Patrons using this service must have first read a copy of both the PAC and wireless policies. Any violation of these polices, and/or state and federal laws regarding obscenity, copyright etc may result in internet privileges being suspended/revoked and if necessary legal action being taken. Hopkins County - Madisonville Public Library is not responsible for any damage incurred to hardware, software, or data whilst using the wireless internet system or for configuration changes that may be needed to access it. Users should have up to date anti-virus software on their device before using the network. The library does not provide such software. Library staff are unable to make changes on patrons wireless devices, including setting up wireless cards, entering SSID network identity, etc. Patrons should have knowledge on how to connect to a wireless network. Wireless patrons are not guaranteed a connection, and should also remember that internet addresses are also subject to change without notice, which is beyond the control of the library. The wireless network provides unfiltered access to the internet. Patrons should use caution when using this service to prevent gaining access to questionable material. In keeping with the PAC policy, children under the age of 12 years old will only be allowed to use the wireless network with adult supervision. Library staff can not provide this supervision. Restrictions on downloading may occur if the speed of internet access to other stations decreases due to excessive bandwidth use. Hopkins County - Madisonville Public Library reserves the right to change the PAC and/or wireless access policies at any time it is deemed necessary. Disclaimer The Hopkins County - Madisonville Public Library is a newcomer to the development of the Internet/WWW servers.
